In this image I waited a respectful distance as this rhino moved closer towards me, holding my camera low to the ground. Finally he was close enough so that I was able to frame this impressive rhino against a moody, cloudy sky. The framing helps to amplify the rhino as a monumental Titan of the plains.

The setting for this image is Solio Game Reserve, Kenya’s first private rhino sanctuary, dedicated to the conservation of white & black rhino. This provides photographers with rare opportunities to document and celebrate a species whose survival depends on protection, research, and ethical photography.

In this image I waited at a respectful distance as this rhino moved closer towards me, holding my camera low to the ground. Rhinos don’t have great eyesight but have a strong sense of smell so I tried to be as quiet and still as possible to ensure he was relaxed.

Finally, he was close enough so that I was able to frame this impressive rhino against a moody, cloudy sky providing a cinematic backdrop that amplifies the

rhino’s weight and presence as a monumental Titan of the plains.

The Full Story Behind The Photo

We came across this cheetah and her two 18-month cubs as they were scouting for potential prey. It looked as if they hadn’t eaten for a few days, and as the plains were full of wildebeest and zebra, we knew it was highly likely they would hunt. It was just a matter of spotting the right opportunity. This low angle image of the mother captures her focus as she moved across the plains. Luckily, they did an orphaned wildebeest shortly afterwards, providing a much-needed meal for the cheetah family.

The Full Story Behind The Photo

This male Tiger emerged from the tall grasses in Dudhwa National Park. We gave it space as it moved onto the sandy path where it started walking away from us. Luckily after a few moments he stopped and turned to look in our direction. For what was less than a minute his alert gaze was fixed towards my camera providing a powerful moment of connection and intensity. However, that was enough time for me to capture this striking portrait of an apex predator in its rightful habitat.

The natural corridor of the path, the vivid contrast of the Tiger’s stripes against the lush green vegetation, and the tiger’s unwavering gaze all work together to create an image that feels both intimate and powerful.

As a tribute, it honors not just the animal itself, but the protected landscapes and conservation efforts that allow the tiger to endure as king of the Indian wild.

The Full Story Behind The Photo

This is a portrait of a Tiger Queen called Scissor just as she was about to move off & start walking down the track. We had barely started our morning game drive in Dudhwa National Park when we noticed one of the jeeps ahead of us stop in the road & anticipated that it was likely a Tiger sighting. We were thrilled when we got to the scene to see Scissor & one of her 7 month old cubs sitting in the road. As this was before sunrise the light was challenging so waited patiently for it to improve. This image captures the moment just after the cub had moved into the undergrowth & Scissor sat up briefly, giving us some wonderful eye contact.

This striking portrait captures Scissor, a regal tigress of Dudhwa National Park, poised in a moment of stillness just before she rose and padded down the track. Our morning safari had barely begun when we spotted a jeep halted ahead — a sure sign of something extraordinary. As we approached, our anticipation turned to pure excitement as there was Scissor, seated in the road with one of her 7-month-old cubs by her side.

The early dawn cast a soft, moody light, and we waited patiently for a moment of connection. Just as her cub melted into the undergrowth, Scissor sat up, turned her gaze toward us, and locked eyes — a fleeting, unforgettable connection between a tiger queen and a handful of observers.

Penalajo, 2025

This is Odrina, the oldest resident female lynx in Penalajo. Moments earlier, she, her daughter Queen, and their five cubs had crowded the waterhole in front of the hide. It was a chaotic scene and from my position I couldn’t get a clear view of any of their faces. I waited, hoping they’d separate. When Queen and the cubs moved off, Odrina stayed behind. As she paused and looked up, I captured this portrait which to me, reflects the quiet beauty of this enigmatic Big Cat who has done so much for Lynx conservation in Spain.

Serengeti 2026

This cheetah had been chased by hyena up on to the kopje. This narrow escape provided me with my first opportunity to photograph a cheetah on top of a kopje. Luckily it stayed up there long enough for me to check the best angle for images, as the cheetah watched and waited for the hyena to move on. Not only was the cheetah on a stunning kopje, but with an afternoon storm brewing I had the perfect sky to complete the scene.
