A male tiger emerged from the tall grasses in Dudhwa. For what was less than a minute his alert gaze fixed towards my camera providing a powerful moment if connection and intensity. That was enough time fior me to capture this striking portrait of intimacy and power.

The Full Story Behind The Photo

This male Tiger emerged from the tall grasses in Dudhwa National Park. We gave it space as it moved onto the sandy path where it started walking away from us. Luckily after a few moments he stopped and turned to look in our direction. For what was less than a minute his alert gaze was fixed towards my camera providing a powerful moment of connection and intensity. However, that was enough time for me to capture this striking portrait of an apex predator in its rightful habitat.

The natural corridor of the path, the vivid contrast of the Tiger’s stripes against the lush green vegetation, and the tiger’s unwavering gaze all work together to create an image that feels both intimate and powerful.

As a tribute, it honors not just the animal itself, but the protected landscapes and conservation efforts that allow the tiger to endure as king of the Indian wild.

Snow Hill, Antarctica 2025

Of everything that I witnessed at Snow Hill this moment moves me to tears. Look what the image shows: two adults are arched over a chick. Their beaks are lowered and their attention is total. Outside of that shelter a smaller chick presses itself against the female for warmth but not getting a response. It was likely an orphan trying to attach itself to the unrelated adults. Doing all it can to survive.

The Full Story Behind The Photo

Of everything I witnessed at Snow Hill, this moment moves me to tears.

Look at what the image shows: two adults are arched over a chick, their beaks are lowed and their attention is total. Outside of that protective shelter a smaller chick sits alone pressing itself against the female for warmth but not getting any response.

I didn't understand what I was seeing at first. Both chicks had begged for food with their heads lifted. The adults preened only the larger one. The smaller chick lowered its head, as if rejected, yet heartbreakingly persistent. Just waiting at the edge of a family that isn't theirs.

Our penguin expert Fabrice Genevois confirmed it later after looking at the images. Orphaned Emperor chicks attach themselves to unrelated adults, drawn to any warmth they can find. But a parent with its own chick will not feed another. Survival means finding an adult who has lost theirs which in a large colony can be rare.

The little one kept trying. So, I still hope it found its “penguin protector” and survived.

The power of this image is in the gestures of the devoted parents and the fact that the smaller chick is still there. Still close. In that single detail lives everything: the cruelty of instinct, the stubbornness of life, and the thin, extraordinary line that separates the two.

A male lion had displayed the flehman response once and when he started to do it again I went for a tighter portrait framing his head and mane against the sky. The resulting evocative portrait depicts a majestic lion at the height of his power.

The Full Story Behind The Photo

We had found the Gol Kopje pride early one morning, but rather than stay with the lionesses and cubs I focused my attention on one of the charismatic male lions. This male had already displayed the flehmen response once, sniffing the air in the middle of the plains. When he started to do it again, I went in for a tighter portrait using my monopod to point my lens upwards to focus on his mane and head against the sky and making good use of negative space. The resulting evocative portrait depicts a majestic lion at the height of his power.

I took this image of a lioness laying on top of a kopje, when her attention was momentarily caught by a bird in the sky. The resulting portrait is a more reflective one, helped by the moody clouds behind her.
