PENGUINS OF ANTARCTICA

Welcome to a new collection of Penguins of Antarctica photos, featuring Emperor, Adélie, Chinstrap, and Gentoo Penguins, photographed during an extraordinary three-week expedition to Snow Hill and the Antarctic Peninsula—one of the world’s most remote and pristine wildernesses.

Emperor Penguin Photography from Snow Hill

The highlight of this journey was photographing Emperor Penguins and their chicks at Snow Hill, one of the most inaccessible wildlife sites on Earth. Home to over 8,000 breeding pairs, the colony can only be reached by helicopter. Stepping onto the sea ice and walking alongside Emperor Penguins as they returned to their colony was a surreal, unforgettable experience.

These Emperor Penguin photos were captured over a two-hour period, documenting intimate moments between adults and chicks. Some of the most powerful images emerged when a chick began begging for food, joined by a smaller orphaned chick seeking care. In just seven minutes, this interaction revealed raw emotion and delivered some of my favourite images from the expedition.

Other key Antarctic Penguin species

Beyond Snow Hill, we visited several Antarctic penguin colonies during peak mating and nest-building season. The Adélie Penguins, small but fiercely energetic, were endlessly entertaining. The bold, graphic markings of Chinstrap Penguins lent themselves perfectly to high-key, minimalist compositions against snow and ice.

Photographing Gentoo Penguins on Petermann and Cuverville Islands during snowstorms was equally magical. Their vivid features added striking contrast and colour to the Antarctic winter landscape.

This collection aims to capture not only the behaviour and character of these remarkable birds, but also the breathtaking environment they call home. These images celebrate the resilience, beauty, and spirit of the Penguins of Antarctica in one of the last true wildernesses on Earth.

Some of these images will be available to buy in my Print Shop early next year. If you are interested in any of them contact me directly here.
