To spend an afternoon in the company of a big Tusker is a truly special experience. Besides photographing Vronsky in his environment I also wanted to take some portraits where you could appreciate his size & a sense of his personality. As I was in a specially constructed photography vehicle, I was able to get my camera close to the ground & used a wide-angle lens which helped to emphasize what a giant he is, but there is also a gentleness as delicately used his trunk to scratch an itch on the underside of his foot. He was so calm in our presence helped in no small measure I am sure by my guide Eric Ole Kalama who knows these elephants so well.
