The Full Story Behind The Photo
I had been at Emperor Penguin colony in Snow Hill for over two and a half hours looking for simple, uncluttered frames of the Emperors. I was particularly focused to look for any interactions between Emperors and their chicks or with the adults themselves. Apart from a couple of interactions, I hadn’t seen anything that was the Emperor “gold dust” that I was searching for.
I had moved further round to my right when I noticed two adults that were semi-isolated tough unfortunately there were still penguins to the left and right that meant I could get completely clean shots. Then they started greeting one another and I was able to get this lovely symmetry in their behaviour. With some creative cropping I have been able to simplify the image so that the eye is focused on this touching gesture between the adults.
